Mileage totals for Christmas week!

Christmas was amazing. The family parties this weekend were amazing. But the most amazing part is that from Christmas through now? I did not take even one picture (besides one Garmin selfie…does that count?)

But I’m soooooo glad it’s over. Christmas is a time to celebrate with your family& loved ones, and while that was really fun-it took a lot out of me this year, and I’m ready to get back to life as usual.

I did a whole bunch of running this week, and I’m really happy about that! Even though it was CRAZY busy, I managed to get my butt outside for all but ONE of my runs!! Running outside =happy Nicole! The weather was SO awesome/weird this week: on Christmas DAY I ran in SHORTS. WHAAAT??? I wish I took a picture, but alas, I was trying to live more “in the moment” instead of on my phone …so mission accomplished!!

Mileage totals:

Tuesday: 8 miles @ 7:41 avg pace.
I love that I have a running journal now…I re-read my journal and I described my run as “I just wasnt that into you”…sometimes I make me laugh at me šŸ˜‰. All treadmill runs are not created equally, and this one was mentally tough.

Wednesday: 8.67 tempo miles outside.

Christmas run! 6.51..7:39 avg pace

Saturday: 20 lovely Miles outside. (you might have seen this picture already because I posted it on both my IG & my Facebook.)

A 2:40 long run is something I’ve been trying to break since the summertime. Keeping my long runs faster really helps me during a marathon. I’m training my legs to be consistent in hitting those same paces every mile while also exerting the same effort. It’s tough, but I know the hard work pays off! I feel like I get closer and closer each week. And, I’ve noticed that week-holding those paces is a little bit easier than the week before. Two weekends ago, I felt sluggish and slow with a 2:51 20 miler. Last week, I felt slightly better and “the run” felt more natural to me and I hit a 2:47. This week, with a 2:42, my legs felt really good for most of my run, and there were miles that I knew I could have gone faster. I’m really excited for my next marathon on Feb 22!!

(the stats were too long to fit on one screen shot so i had to take two!)

Sunday-7 miles recovery @ 8:19 pace.
I think the recovery run is also one of my favorite runs lately. The first mile is spent adjusting to the aches of using my muscles again, but by mile 2, i usually have worked out all those kinks and I”m ready to go. This run was really hilly and ended up being a progression run the 2nd half which is kind of cool.

Mileage totals for the week: 50.2, avg pace 7:59

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays still…and the end of 2014!

What was your favorite run of the week?

  1. Strong week! I actually didn’t enjoy many of my runs this week. I didn’t get a lot of sleep, my mp3 player wasn’t working one day… I just wasn’t “feeling” it. Yesterday was good though. I did 5 miles and enjoyed every step! Beautiful weather and a good podcast helps.

  2. Great week, Nicole! I think getting in my runs definitely helped with energy and stress reduction!

And the weather was SO awesome! I remember when I met the young woman after finishing the hills on Christmas eve she asked how far I’d gone and I said 11 so far … she was surprised. But it was one of those days you just wanted to run ALL the miles šŸ™‚

  3. Nice work on the running twinie! You ran enough for both of us and you needed to because I soooo played hooked all last week ha! And a 20 miler outdoors at this time of year where you live?!?!?! I hope the weather was somewhat bearable for you.

  4. Nice times! Congrats on such a great week of running. That alone is inspiring, the Christmas week is usually so crazy and it’s hard to get normal stuff done with all that’s going on!

  5. woot woot, awesome week of christmas running! i want to say my favorite run was christmas day in shorts, but in hindsight, i think my horrible 12 miler on saturday was my favorite run. not because i felt awful, but knowing i can push myself through physically and mentally when i am having an off day.
