Happy weekend!!

I love summer weekends! actually… I love ALL days in the summer…who am I kidding??
This weekend is extra-special because we have big family plans and I’m really excited to see everyone!

This week officially kicked off my training for the Baystate Marathon. My running partner and I have discussed in RIDICULOUS detail what we plan on doing for it. I customized a plan for myself/us on runnersworld.com on their “smart coach” tool. I was able to plug in my most recent marathon time (I used my Hyannis time of 3:45. I’m pretending my terrible, awful, no good Boston time just never happened..please pretend along with me!)

Another cool feature of the “smart coach” tool is that you can click on the the day and read a more specific description of what it wants you to do today:

The coaching plan has us gradually getting faster and faster over the next 17ish weeks, and it has me at a 3:18 finish. wouldn’t that be awesome? yes, yes it would.

We are following this plan, and will tweak it as needed. There will be track work coming soon, (such a painful Necessity) and the return of Tempo Tuesday.

In case you are interested, this is a screenshot of the first few weeks:

I am already running a little more than the suggested long run mileage-my long runs lately have been 16 miles, and I plan to build on that while using this plan to get a little faster between now and Baystate.

In other workout news…I planked for THREE minutes straight yesterday!!
I thought I would try to build on my previous best of two minutes. Yikes, it’s hard. I break out in a full on sweat by a minute and a half…I can only imagine how drenched
I will be as I continue to build on that!!

I googled “record for longest plank” (come on, you were curious, weren’t you?) and I came up with a great story about a young girl, Gabi Ury who set the female record at only 16 years old for the longest plank of 1 hour, 20 minutes, 5 seconds. Read the story—she is COOL.

George Hood holds the Male record is 3 hours, 7 minutes, 15 seconds. Whatever, Dude…

Have a great weekend!!

Who planks? Longest record for yourself?
-3 minutes!

  1. I cannot seem to get past 1:30 in a plank! How are these people doing it for hours?! Clearly I’ve got some work to do ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Ummm okay, so right after I posted that comment, I watched Gabby’s video, was so inspired and totally just held a 2 minute plank. Shaking, but I have a huge smile on my face. A little inspiration is sometimes all it takes to do something you thought you couldn’t! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. 3 minutes is impressive! I fall apart after 2 but I haven’t challenged myself to keep going. Creating a marathon training plan is so exciting, and I think you’ll be well on your way to an awesome marathon. I’ll definitely be following your training ๐Ÿ™‚
