Happy new year!

New Years is a time to reflect back on the last year, think about how far you’ve come, and changes you want to see in your New Year. The best part about a new year is that it is as if everyone is given their own fresh start. A whole 365 days, just for you-like a clean slate.

Reflecting back on my own year (running-wise): I have had a great year. every year I get faster, and I hope I am always running like this. (Side note, don’t forget my homegirl Nina Caron who won Baystate this year…she is In Her 50’s and WON a MARATHON. and THATS how it’s done, ladies&gents) #ageaintnothinbutanumber

I took a look at my Runkeeper app to see how many miles I have run this year…even I was a little surprised…

Yes that says 2,770!!!!!!!.
As I write this, it is 5:45 am and I haven’t done today’s run yet. I plan to do a nice 13 mile run(to work off-in advance- the chicken pot pie cupcakes, wine, and champagne I will be drinking, haha). That will bring my year end total to 2,783 miles.
confession 1: if I had gotten the bright idea to look at this in, let’s say, September-I would have made a plan to give me a nice rounded number like 3000. The perfectionist in me would love that.)
confession 2: a big little part of me wants to run 30 miles today to round it out at 2800. I won’t be doing that though, don’t worry. That ‘ish cray!

After looking at this years totals, I of course, had to peek back at 2012 to see how many miles I did..

2,610 miles for 2012. That (will be) a difference of 173 miles. Not too shabby!

I’m really excited about 2014. I decided to set the goal for myself to run the 14 in ’14 because I did 4 races this year and I found myself to INTENSELY love competition. Even I was surprised to discover that little piece of info about me! I am already feeling the itch for my first race Hyannis Marathon on 2/23/14! πŸ’•πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ‘

Tomorrow is the last day of vacation. I’m sad to see it go, but I know that spring is coming and well, let’s face it, you can’t beat that! During my 12 days off, I have kept my promise to myself of ONLY running outside. I’m bummed that this will mean hopping back on the “dreadmill” (thanks Sheila!!) BUT- the end is in sight! December is the darkest month to get through. The days are now getting longer, how can I not love that?!

Monday was a rest day for me, and yesterday I ran 10 miles. It was a bit cold but I worked up a pretty good sweat that kept me warm. πŸ™‚ my average pace was 8:45. I know 10 is a lot of miles to run back to back with 13, but I’m really trying to squeeze in an many miles as possible before school starts back up on Thursday. πŸ™‚

I hope you all have a safe and happy New Years! Take a minute and reflect back on your own 2013.. Where do you see 2014 taking you??

  1. Wow that is awesome you ran so many miles!! and 14 races?? You will crush it! I just ran a marathon this past november, and I want to take a bit of a break from running to focus on lifting…so my goal is to PR in a 5k, and maybe do a fall half marathon πŸ™‚

    • Thank you! I was also pretty shocked!:) I need to focus on strength too..I try to do weight sessions twice a week, but during the holidays it was tough to get it done! I love fall marathons…I wish all year round could be fall weather bc it makes training so amazing!:) good luck!!:)

  2. HOLY MILES!!! You’re a freakin’ beast! I don’t have a completely accurate number for this year because sometimes I didn’t use Runkeeper, or forgot to more likely, or it didn’t work properly. Maybe that will be something fun to do for 2014.
