Today I woke up really wanting to BRING IT to my daily run. I wanted to do a tempo run, and I wanted it to rock it. I love days like this!!
During breakfast, and before my run, I saw this article on my news feed that my friend Sheila posted to Facebook. It’s from Runners World, encouraging you to pledge to run one mile a day (or more) from now through New Year’s Day. This seems like a really easy and completely doable challenge! I figure that once you get your streak rolling- you’ll want to keep it going! How perfect to see this challenge article on a day that I was amped up to have an awesome-sauce run!
Sometimes, during the holiday season- I end up shortening my runs because I have to be here or there, and it always makes me angry with myself. Is anybody else like that? Sometimes it’s my own fault..I’m too tired and lazy to get started when I SAID I was going to start… I digress, waiting until the last possible minute. Sometimes I just have 84,000 Christmas errands to do. The point is: I make a lot of big plans with myself to go running and at times- I break my plans with due to holidays stress. This year I want my running during the holidays to be different.
The holidays are such an awesome time of year. We spend time with family whom we don’t get to see a lot. We seek out the perfect presents for our loved ones just to see that look of pure joy on their faces come Christmas morning. We come up with perfect recipes, host parties, attend parties, shop til we drop, spend too much money and eat too much food. In short- there’s a whole lotta stuff crammed into each one our days during the holidays!
The trick is to carve time for your runs every day. Busy week ahead? Plan your week ahead of time for when you’ll go for your daily runs. Running in the morning can be my saving grace. Often, by the time I get home from work- the thought of going running can weigh me down because I know how much other stuff I have to do. Too cold outside or bad weather? Run on a treadmill. If you don’t have access to one-Most gyms will let you have a free trial one day pass, or even free for one week. College campus gyms also often offer discounts to use their equipment.
Why not make it a point to make your daily run be just time for YOU?
Remembering to save a few minutes a day for your daily run will save your sanity. Too often, during the holiday season, We forget to keep up with our own needs because we are trying to do so much for others. Hold yourself accountable to keep your streak going. Set a new goal that you’ll be accomplishing after Christmas-sign up for a winter half/full marathon. There is nothing like working towards a new goal to keep those legs pumping!
I’m ALL in for this streak!
Join me in this challenge! You can pledge your support and commitment by hash tagging your runs with #RWRunStreak. Just think about it..it’s Monday….the start of a fresh new week…and you know you’re ready for something to keep you motivated during this holiday season! 🙂
Let’s make it a point to not neglect ourselves during the holidays! let’s start this streak and keep it going until January, and maybe even LONGER!
Now, if you’ll excuse me- I’ve got some miles to log!
Run Free, Run Strong.. And LET’S STREAK!!
