Even though my blog is primarily a running blog- once in a while, I like to switch it up and go into “deep mode” for ya’ll(I’m STILL a country girl even though I’m from NE-don’t make a big deal of the fact that I say ya’ll) After all- we runners have a lot of time on our hands due to the hours we spend pounding the pavement and listening to our tunes. The lyrics above are from “Bruises” by Train and featuring Ashely Monroe. Wherever it happens to come on my iPod, I automatically crank it. I’m that weird girl who runs to country music and manages to get psyched up. Anyway, the chorus of this song is the inspiration behind this pensive post:
“We ALL got bruises”
Whether they are visible to the naked eye, or hidden deep within, we all have our own personal struggles to overcome. Think about where you are in your life now. Could you have gotten to this place now without the help of your family and friends? Could you have done it alone?
“You’re not alone in how you’ve been”
Take a minute and think about how you personally view others. Sometimes, we judge people too quickly. We even make assumptions among our own close friends that “everything is fine” when it’s not. You never know what someone is thinking inside their head or the hurt they bear in their hearts: We’ve all had moments where we’ve felt alone in our lives, even though we’re NOT. How can we change that?
“It’s good to let you in again”
I want to live in the kind of world where on a daily basis, I can reach out and talk to those around me and feel like we are connecting. No matter if it is with my husband, family, friends, coworkers, or students: I want to be the kind of person who is able to say to a friend “Hey, what can I do to help you, you look like you’re having a rough time of it today”
“These bruises make for better conversation-Loses the vibe that separates”
Here are some things I want to continue/make sure to do on a daily basis:
-Take an extra second or two to smile at a stranger. –>A smile can change someone’s vwhole day, and can affect their whole mentality#smilesfordays.
-Give a hug to a friend and tell them you love them. –>Old friends-new friends-someone you haven’t talked to in a while: Just do it.
-Make the extra effort to do something nice for someone else. –>Random acts of kindness go far. (remember the movie Pay It Forward?)
-Often times, just thinking before you speak can make a world of difference–>Hurting someone else’s feelings never feels good, does it?
-help someone to have a better TODAY and even better TOMORROW. –>Making the world brighter one high five at a time!:)
Thanks for reading..I’m off to make somebody’s day a little brighter, I hope you do too!
I leave you with this last quote: “Be the kind of change you want to see in the world”–Ghandi
